Welcome to Polarwave's OpenBSD Tips and Tricks for Newbies!
This site is devoted to just that, tips and tricks, things to make
your life easier when coming to the world of BSD. It can be a bit
disconcerting and intimidating, especially if you're coming from
the windows world. Once you manage to get OpenBSD installed,
you start wondering, "Now what do I do?" Installing ports and
packages, updating the system, installing patches, cvs, and much
more is covered on the main OpenBSD site, and also at my host's
web site, OpenBSD101.com, and, of course, in the man pages. But,
the everyday job of getting things done, figuring what command
you typed one hour ago, running commands from within the vim
editor, and a myriad of other tasks are things learned over a long
period of time and built on. I've got a blog now on this site and
comments are not only welcome but encouraged. You see a mistake,
jump on it. Share your knowledge. To me, that's what open source
is all about. I've tried to keep the site simple. Hence, no fancy formatting, bells and whistles, and other needless encumberances. NOTE: Javascript was needed on the feeds page. Also for the counter at the top of the pages. If you don't see the countdown timer to the date of the next OpenBSD release, it's because you don't have javascript turned on. And, that's okay, it ain't necessary. It's just there for fun more than anything else. Which reminds, while you're learning, remember to have a good time. |
